MCS-150 update: find your due month and file it free

The last digit of your USDOT number sets the month, the one before it sets the year. Look yours up, see what the update involves, and what the 2026 pause on deactivation means.

Facts read against their sources on Oct 25, 2026.

When is my MCS-150 update due?

Digits only. It is on the side of the truck.

Enter your USDOT number.

The MCS-150 is your company's record at FMCSA: who you are, how many trucks and drivers you have, what you carry, how far you drive. You must update it every two years even if nothing changed. Filing the update is free.

Your due date

The last digit of your USDOT number sets the month: 1 is January through 9 for September, and 0 is October. The second-to-last digit sets the year: an odd digit means odd years, an even digit means even years. The update is due by the last day of that month.

For example, a number ending in 48 is due in August of even years. Use the lookup above for yours.

Where to file

FMCSA's registration system, Motus, opened to all carriers on 19 May 2026 and replaced the registration functions of the old FMCSA Portal. You sign in with Login.gov, open your company, and choose the update. A company official has to be the one who claims the account.

What to check before you submit

  • Power units and drivers. These feed your UCR bracket if you use the plan's Auto-Renew.
  • Mileage for the last year.
  • Your phone number and email. FMCSA uses them.
  • The operation type. Interstate and intrastate carriers are treated differently.

The 2026 pause

FMCSA has paused USDOT deactivation for updates due on or after 1 June 2026, and has not said when the pause ends. The deadline has not moved. Carriers who skip the update now are relying on a pause that can be lifted without notice, and a deactivated number means you cannot operate until it is reactivated.

Missed updates can carry civil penalties. FMCSA sets the amounts in 49 CFR Part 386 Appendix B and adjusts them for inflation, so look up the current figure rather than trust an old one.

Common questions

Is there a fee for the MCS-150 update?

Not from FMCSA. Filing your own update is free. Companies that charge for it are charging for the service of filing.

I updated last month. Do I still have a deadline?

The schedule stays the same. An update filed in the 24 months before your deadline counts for it; Haul10's checker uses that reading and shows its inputs so you can confirm it in Motus.

Who can file it?

A company official, or a service provider the official has connected to the account in Motus.
